In order to preserve Cyprus’s cultural heritage, the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) suggested several measures including: all listed buildings will be recorded, there will be an electronic identity for every building and monument, the buildings will be classified into categories, measures will be undertaken to support abandoned buildings, an increase of the funds to maintain these monuments to 70 percent and others.
This is what President of ETEK Konstantinos Konstantis submitted to the House Interior Committee in view of the three listed buildings that were demolished at the orders of the Archbishop.
ETEK also believes that a big campaign has to be organized addressed to owners/future owners and relevant authorities about the motives and procedures for these buildings.
ETEK is aiming to train its members with seminars about the issue.
Regarding the proposal of DISY President Averof Neofytou about increase of fines and penalties, the ETEK President said they see the suggestion positively since it might prevent people from proceeding with the demolition of these buildings.
