NERVO interview for the performance at the Living Color Festival 2019

Relevant News

From songwriters to artists to Electronic Dance Music superstars, Miriam and Olivia Nervo of NERVO – the Australian DJ duo, are coming back to Cyprus to perform at the Living Color Music & Arts Festival 2019.

Since 2009 they have made a miraculous climb onto the international scene when they co-wrote David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s huge hit, When Love Takes Over.
We were excited to hear they are to perform for a second time at the Living Color Festival 2019, so we caught up with them to give us their latest updates. After both of them became mothers this past year, they are coming back stronger than ever this summer, with their new single Sober (https://nervo.lnk.to/Sober ).

1. Hello Liv and Mim! Please tell us all about you.
How is life like working with your twin sister 24/7?
Liv: We are twin sisters, we are best friends, we are business partners, we are each other’s sounding board, we are each other’s biggest supporters and also each other’s harshest critic but one thing is for sure and that is that we wouldn’t be where we are today without each other. We squabble at times but there is an underlining honesty and respect that we have for each other which ultimately has been the best teamwork we have ever experienced. If you have a family member who you can share the road with then we suggest you go for it! This business is super tough so having a partner you can trust is priceless.

2. What made you realise that this is you want to do for the rest of your lives?
Mim: It wasn’t like we knew we wanted to be DJs but we knew we wanted to work in music from a very early age. Music was always central to our being and the only thing that came naturally. We loved it, we played piano and sang from a very early age. We wrote our first song when we were around 14 years old, we didn’t realize we were writing songs, we were more just having fun at the piano and wanted to get out of practicing scales. As far as our introduction to electronic music goes, it was probably when we went to our first music festival – The Big Day Out, where we saw The Prodigy. That was a life changing experience. We were super inspired by the sounds, the scene, everything really. It never occurred to us to go solo as we always enjoyed working together. We don’t think we would be where we are today if we had gone solo. Two heads are better than one hey!

3. Which artists do you admire the most as you being their biggest fan?
Liv: We’re inspired by so many great artists. Everyone from Flume to Skrillex to The Chainsmokers and DJ Snake to Louis and The Child to Calvin Harris and also of course we love heavy weight staples like Sander Van Doorn, Bart Claessen, Gorgon City, Disclosure, Jamie XX MK, etc etc etc. It’s exciting that so many sub genres are exploding so there’s a new set of hyped artists each season! It’s too hard to choose just 3!

4. This is the second time you are to perform at Living Color Festival in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. What can you tell us about your past experience that made you want to come back this year?
Mim: The Greek countries are a lot of fun to play because they party so hard, there are later curfews and they don’t always need lyrics to sing to. There’s definitely a joy of dancing/living that Cyprus people posses. We have also become really connected to the places that support us so coming back to Living Color Festival is going to be a lot of fun and we can’t wait to see everyone again!

5. We know you have worked with Kylie Minogue, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, Kreayshawn and more. Any more collaborations coming up?
Liv: Everyone we have worked with has been truly amazing! On our first album we worked with some severe talents like Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, Kreayshawn etc etc. We would have to say one of our favorite and most fun projects was getting to work with Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears and Niles Rodgers on “The Other Boys” because everyone was so super chill to work with! We have some great collabs coming this year with Paris Hilton, The Knocks, Firebeatz, and Tinie Tempah so keep an eye out for those!

Nervo of Nervonation will be performing at the Living Color Music & Arts Festival on the 3rd of August 2019 in Ayia Napa.
