“What happens to me is written up there”: Maria Loizidou’s Solo Exhibition Opening on October 21

“What happens to me is written up there” is the name of Maria Loizidou’s new exhibition which will take place at Eins gallery as part of Limassol Art Walks 2022 between the 21st and the 23rd of October.
The opening hours of the gallery during this period will be as follows:
21 October from 18:00 until 22:00
22 October from 11:00 until 13:00
23 October from 15:00 until 17:00
Thereafter, the opening times until the 19th of November are as follows:
Thursday – Friday from 18:00 until 20:00
Saturdays from 11:00 until 13:00
Additionally, every Wednesday, visitors will be able to view drawings of their choice from the archive by calling 99522977 and making an appointment.
Returning to her hometown, Maria Loizidou shares with the public parts of her work that refer to the practice of drawing. For this purpose, more than 2,000 drawings have been gathered and concentrated, all presenting the energy of Loizidou’s non- stop labours and participatory praxis.
This particular presentation of drawings aims to create a visual repository, posing the question of whether it can be synchronised with the social history and public culture of the locality, as well as within a wider geographical context. An archival effort that has as its starting point the belief that the examination of drawings can be included in the practice of articulating stories that are common to all. During this action, and through the lens of collective identity, the archive is offered to everyone.
The gallery space will host the tensions of fragile pencil lines that move beyond paper and the practice of rendering speech as reading reflections of shared experiences. In the same direction, workshops are proposed which are designed to expand the archive and place our thinking at the core of researching collective history and public existence.
The presentation of the drawings will be accompanied by the participation of Loizidou, a sound piece and live intervention by Androula Kafa, as well as the use of other media developed in the gallery space.
Lastly, two workshops will be held on November 5th and 12th from 3 – 5 pm. Those interested in participating in the workshops can secure their registration by October 30 by calling 22434353.
