One of the greatest plays by William Shakespeare finds its way to the Cypriot stage for the first time. The story of unsightly, evil but uncannily seductive king Richard III is a study on power, violence and “beauty”, unfolding within the dark setting of Medieval England to expose the strongest primal instincts of human nature. Conspiracies, false friendships, transactions and blackmails make up the backdrop to the life of this enigmatic hero that treads the path from rapid rise to thunderous fall.
Paris Erotokritou’s stage direction explores the complex nature of Prokopis Agathocleous’ Richard and the relation of theatre to History in order to bring out the timeless quality of the play’s themes. The performance brings together an impressive cast of contributors and actors, including Panagiotis Bougiouris, Christina Pavlidou and Demetris Frankioglou.
