CYHERBIA – May / June 2018

May is the month of flowers and the CYHERBIA herb gardens are showing all their spring splendour!

This month we will be extracting essential oils EVERY WEEKEND, and informative presentations about the oils will be given throughout the weekend in English Greek and Russian.

The plants that are ready for extraction are oregano, thyme and bay.

The FAIRY FESTIVAL, which was planned for the 5th & 6th of May, will sadly be POSTPONED until further notice.

We have started preparing for this year’s Lavender Festival, which will take place at Cyherbia Botanical Park in Avgorou, from the 9th until the 24th of June.

During the lavender festival you can:
*Enjoy our lavender gardens in full bloom
*Witness the extraction of Lavender essential oil
*Take part in lavender craft workshops for all ages
*Join the fragrant processing of lavender
*Enjoy a cooking demonstration with lavender
*Go on a meditation walk in the lavender Labyrinth
*Book a professional photoshoot in the lavender gardens with our resident photographer, for yourself or your family

During the lavender fest Cyherbia Botanical Park will be open daily from 9:00 until 20:00!

Strovolos Theatre Festival 2018

After the success of the 1st Strovolos Theater Festival, which was inaugurated last September, the Strovolos Municipality continues this year with the Theater Festival 2018 in May and June, with an enriched program that will involve theatrical formations from Cyprus and Greece.

All the performances will start at 20:30.

Tickets are sold in Strovolos Municipal Palace (Monday – Friday 8:00 – 14:00) and at the Strovolos Municipal Theater on the day of the show (16:00 – 20:30).

Τhe social aspect of the festiva is also as important as the artistic, as all the performances – with the exception of one, which will have free admission – will have an entry ticket of 5 Euros or 10 Euros and the proceeds will be offered for charitable purposes. Inauguration of an exhibition at the Visitors’ Center in the Archaeological Site of Kato Pafosand the Medieval Castle of Pafos.

The event is co-organized by the International Council of Monuments and Sites – the Cyprus Section and the Department of Antiquities Cyprus, in the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 (EU) and the International Day for Monuments and Sites, ICOMOS – UNESCO (18 April). It is held under the auspices of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works. There will be a publication of the exhibition by the Department of Antiquities and the Cyprus Section of ICOMOS.

ABOUT THE ACCORDION FESTIVAL
The main goal of the festival is to create awareness and educate people all over Cyprus, of all ages, about the wonderful Musical Instrument of Accordion. Lania Lanes and Courtyards 2018

Located in the Lemesos district, the small, traditional village of Lania sits in an altitude of 570 metres on the Troodos mountain range, just 25 km from Lemesos town. The village can be reached by following B8 road.

Lania is one of the grape cultivating villages of the island. Whilst its residents were mainly employed in the cultivation of vines – and the production of wines, Zivania (spirit) and Soutzoukos (grape sweet) in older times – due to urbanization, there are now only a few harvesters and grape producers left.

The women of the village open their yards to welcome visitors to their houses in the ‘Lanes and Courtyards of Lania’ event.
Walk along the picturesque lanes and visit their open courtyards.

Interesting sights include the old wine press, the Commandaria Storage Museum, and an old olive press. The church of Panagia Valana is located in the centre of the village, whilst the chapel of Panagia Valana can be found just outside the village, near a small picnic area and a park.

Anthestiria Festival 2018

In spring rhythms, colors and melodies we will be waiting for you at the most vibrant celebration of the year, in which the main avenue of Protaras will be flooded with chariots made of flowers in parade full of colours.

The Paralimni Municipality is reviving the cultural norm on the Famagusta Flower Festival on Saturday of May 2018 at 18:00 at Protaras Street (Hotel Avenue). Street Parade by organized groups of the Famagusta area.The procession will start from the place that take place the Famagusta events (over the Fig Tree Bay beach).

The revival of the “Panathinaia” feast will take place filling the air with music and enchanting dancers shall captivate all senses. Rose Festival

Τhis event is organised every year by the Agros Community Council and lasts for two weekends.

During the festival, visitors have the chance to visit the local workshops and learn all about the distillation of roses.They can also visit the rose exhibition and various kiosks that sell traditional products.
At the same time, people can enjoy folk dance and music performances throughout the course of the festival.

In the area there will be kiosks with food and drinks, while the community train will offer walks to young and old.

All the sights of the village are open for the public to see.

Anthestiria Feast in Germasogeia Municipality

The Municipality of Germasogeia organises the Feast of Anthestiria on Saturday and Sunday 19 & 20 May 2018 at Potamos tis Germasogheias with the slogan “Different Colors, Different Shapes, A Bouquet – The Beauty of Diversity”.

This two-day celebration will take place in two different venues:
1. In the parking lot of “Potamos tis Germasogeias”, where during the weekday, a flower market will take place, a flower exhibition, children’s playgrounds for creative childcare and a traditional café. There will also be a rich artistic program with the participation of well-known musical groups.

2. At the sea-front Germasogeia avenue on Sunday afternoon a parade of flower decorated chariots and line-ups of groups will take place with the participation of Cypriots and foreigners in a symbolic marching in support of cultural diversity, social integration and tackling social exclusion and discrimination.

3rd Nicosia Book Festival 2018
The Nicosia Book Festival returns for the third consecutive year, making the book lovers and friends very happy.

1th Deryneia Strawberry Festival 2018
Located in the Ammochostos (Famagusta) district, the small town of Deryneia – originally known as ‘Yerinia’ – has a rich, ancient past and is likely to have been where settlers to the island arrived after the Trojan War.

As one of the fertile ‘red soil villages’ (Kokkinochoria), Deryneia is the main strawberry grower of the island, and is famous for its juicy, sweet fruit.
