The Department of Environment gives green light for Paralimni Marina

The Department of Environment gave the green light yesterday to the construction and operation of the Paralimni Marina, Phileleftheros reports.

In a letter sent by the environment department to the Town Planning and Housing Department, it is noted that should a planning permit be granted for the project, the latter should communicate it to the environmental authority so that it can monitor the aspects concerning it.

In addition, it is emphasised that should planning permission be obtained, the company in charge of the project — PMV Maritime Holdings Ltd — should enter into an agreement with the Environment Department to cover its annual cost of €15,000 for the monitoring of building works to ensure environmental aspects are adhered to.

The marina will have 300 spots for docking vessels, a selection of shops, cafeterias, bars and restaurants, a parling lot, residential apartments and villas, a seaside park and walkways leading to Protaras beaches.

It will cover an area of 29,000 m2 in Pernera, on the southeast coast of Cyprus, close the centre of Paralimni and north of Cape Greco.

Building works are expected to last four years, while the construction of the marine elements of the project will last approximately 34 months.
