Terra Cypria says Local Plan on Akamas must be radically reviewed

Terra Cypria, the Cypriot Institution for the Protection of the Environment said that the Local Plan for Akamas needs to be radically reviewed to respond to the local needs of the area of Akamas.

According to a relevant announcement, the plan must safeguard the protection of the unique natural environment and at the same time to find fair and practical solutions for people who are deprived of their development rights. It also noted that the protection of the environment but also the acceptance of the plans by the local communities are equally important.

As Christoforos Panagiotou, and official of Terra Cypria said, the proposed plan includes several provisions that go against the principles of viable development.

Finally it is noted that the model of development to be followed in Akamas must take into consideration the particularities of the area but also the need to protect both the Natura 2000 area but also the wider environment and at the same time to safeguard the equal treatment of all residents with the other Cypriot citizens.
