Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage seeks Heritage Youth Ambassadors

The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage seeks to appoint Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot “Heritage Youth Ambassadors”.

In a press release, the Technical Committee invites young people aged between 18 and 35 years old to apply to become Heritage Youth Ambassadors by August 31.

Heritage Youth Ambassadors, it notes, “should embrace the values of solidarity, respect for human dignity and human rights, and believe in the promotion of a fair and equal society in which pluralism, non – discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality prevail.”

Heritage Youth Ambassadors will act as the “youth voice” of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage and will be mandated to reach out to and engage with the young people of Cyprus through promoting cultural heritage sites and monuments to their networks, engaging young people in activities and events of the Committee, sharing stories and pictures about cultural heritage on social media.

They should also act as unofficial guardians of the selected monuments by undertaking regular visits and reporting on their status.

“Young people, who are involved, will develop new skills and enhance their CVs, gain knowledge about the preservation of cultural heritage and gain experience in community engagement activities,” the press release says.

Information sessions have already taken place in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos and will continue on Thursday (July 25) , 16:00 – 18:30 at Kale Pasaji in Famagusta and on Tuesday (July 30) between 17:30 – 19:00 at Villaggio Templos, Kyrenia.

To apply, candidates should post between one and three pictures, or a 30 second video on Instagram, and explain in the description/comments section why cultural heritage is important to them.

The hashtags #oursharedheritage #EuropeforCulture and #TCCHYouthAmbassador should be used.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview by mid – September.

More information about the application process is available here.
