Strovolos wrecks lambradjia louts’ plans

Despite government decrees banning Eastern bonfires (lambradjies)  and repeated warnings from police and local authorities that they will not be tolerated, young people are still hiding piles of wood in various locations in a shameful attempt to break the law.

One such incident was highlighted today by Strovolos Mayor Andreas Papacharalambous.

“Shameful pictures once again. Strovolos Municipality crews, accompanied by police are still finding hidden piles of wood…Some people have not yet got the message that they must stay home for the safety of all us. PITY…” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Earlier on Thursday, the mayor had told CyBC that the municipality was still finding piles of wood and referred particularly to one instance where the wood was hidden in an unfinished apartment block.
