Special police constable jailed for child porn

A special police constable has been jailed for six months by Nicosia district court after being found guilty on four child pornography charges.

He was charged with possession of child porn, creating a false profile, grooming and distributing child porn.

The case came to light in 2014 when a teen girl (under 17) filed a complaint that the defendant had published photos of her on Facebook.

The defendant initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty.

Prosecutor Maro Charalambous had told the court that the special constable had created a false Facebook profile appearing as a woman and became a friend with the teen. He then asked for photos of her in the nude, which she sent but when she realised what had happened blocked him.

He threatened to post the photos, and she relented. He nevertheless posted the photos, though he concealed her face.

She finally reported the case to police which tracked down the defendant.
