Safety campaign on carnival costumes from Consumer Service

With the carnival season fast approaching the Consumer Protection Service is launching a safety campaign on fancy dress clothing and other carnival items, particularly as regards children.

In an announcement issued om Thursday, the Consumer Protection Service said that more than 80 outlets will be checked during the campaign to be held from February 7 to February 21 in order to locate and withdraw products which are dangerous or do not comply with the law.

It added that information on unsuitable carnival products including masks, wigs and costumes found by the European Commission’s Rapex service in 2019 to be dangerous because they are highly flammable or because of small items or small batteries is available on the website.  Consumers in possession of such products are urged to return them and to to inform the service.

For further information or to submit a complaint, consumers can contact the service through the website www.consumer.gov.cy or on the telephones 22200930, 22200923, 22200925 or 149 (consumer’s line).

The service’s website also features information on child safety and toys.
