SBA police will tonight carry out a joint operations with their counterparts from the Republic of Cyprus to check compliance with measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Deputy police commander for the British Bases at Akrotiri Contantinos Petrou said the aim of the joint operation from 19:00 to 22:00 aims to send a message to the public that Cyprus and Bases police are implementing the same measures in the effort to fight the virus.
He added that even though police has the responsibility and the right to enforce measures, nothing can be achieved without the cooperation of the public.
“Our aim is not to book people, but the law will be enforced where necessary. That is why I call on my fellow citizens to cooperate so that we can defeat this threat TOGETHER the soonest possible,” he said.
SBA police will continue daily checks, he added and other than the operations within the SBAs will also cooperate with Cyprus police.
