Lawyer Giorgos Savvides will replace outgoing Ionas Nicolaou as Justice Minister, President Anastasiades confirmed today.
Savvides was born in Famagusta in 1959. He is the founding partner and managing director of GEORGE L. SAVVIDES & CO LLC.
He was admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 1984 after receiving an LLB from the University of Exeter. He also served as barrister of the Middle Temple.
He has made several presentations and chaired sessions in numerous international conferences on different issues ranging from the benefits of using Cyprus in international tax planning to issues of law firm management and other issues.
Nicolaou handed over his portfolio today. He had submitted his resignation on May 2 following an uproar over the way police handled cases of missing women and children later found to be the victims of a self-confessed serial killer.
President Anastasiades had asked Nicolaou to stay on for a few more weeks because a number of issues relating to judicial reform were still pending.
