President Nicos Anastasiades is back in New York after his London-bound airplane turned back three hours into the flight after the pilot detected a crack in the cockpit windscreen, CyBC reports.
It said that the airplane returned to New York, where the president had attended the UN General Assembly, at around 1 am.
The Cyprus News Agency said the airplane left New York’s JFK airport on Saturday afternoon. The problem was detected three hours into the flight while the airplane was over the Atlantic.
For safety reasons, the pilot decided to return to New York.
Also on the airplane with the president was first lady Andri Anastasiades, Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides, government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou and other officials.
