A man transferred by police to prison has tested positive for coronavirus, the prison authorities said late on Wednesday.
They said that as part of measures to prevent the spread of the virus, management had asked that all new arrivals be tested for Covid-19 before enter prison when transferred from the courts and police stations.
Pending the results, they are kept apart from other detainees, outside the main building of the prison.
One of the new arrivals of Tuesday had on Wednesday tested positive, it added. The person is asymptomatic.
The prison service said that it was taking all necessary measures in cooperation with the Health Ministry to transfer the individual to a hospital.
