Police arrests member of ‘Pink Panthers’ international thief network (video)

Police arrested a 37-year-old Serbian man yesterday in Limassol, in connection to four jewelry store robberies.

The man was arrested in FYROM and was extradited yesterday to Cyprus, following the issuance of a European arrest warrant.

He is believed to be a member of the international jewel thief network ‘Pink Panthers’ consisting of 200-250 members from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He is suspected of stealing €278,328-worth of jewels from four jewelry stores in Paphos and Limassol between May 26, 2012-May 30, 2013.

He will appear in court today to be remanded in custody.

According to The Independent, the Pink Panthers, is a” loosely affiliated gang of international jewel thieves that in the past 25 years has been held responsible for some of the most profitable and daring diamond heists in the world.”

In 2003,  they stole 47 items worth more than £23m from the Graff Jewellery Salon, London, Britain’s most expensive diamond heist.

Also, in one Tokyo raid, immaculately dressed gang members took 36 seconds to steal nearly £2m worth of gems from a jeweler’s; after spraying employees with tear gas, they escaped on bicycles.

For the past two decades the Pink Panthers pulled off jewelry heists in more than 35 countries and stole half-a-billion dollars’ worth of valuables.
