Police have arrested a young man from Limassol after a video posted on social media showed two dogs engaging in bloody dogfighting, Philenews reported on Tuesday.
Investigators do not rule out the possibility that the owners of the two dogs were putting bets on the shocking dogfight which was reported on Saturday.
The illegal dogfight took place in the yard of a primary school in Limassol and viewers alerted animal protection police officers.
The arrested 25-year-old man was remanded in custody for one day by a Limassol district court. Another young man and owner of the second dog is wanted by police.
The arrested man denies wrongdoing saying that the dog belonged to his ex-wife and had run away from home. And that he was informed about the dog’s escape and went to the area where the dogfighting was going on while looking for him.
Other people were spectators of the fight ad one was also videotaping it, he also told invesigators.
