Pedestrian hit by car in Paphos

A 33 year old tourist from Lithuania has been hospitalised after she was hit by a car while trying to the cross the Tombs of the Kings Avenue outside the Mall of Cyprus on Wednesday afternoon. Her condition has been described as serious, but out of danger.

The victim was on a pedestrian crossing that is controlled by lights.

The driver of the car, a 38 year old woman, was arrested.  She told police that there were three pedestrians at the edge of the road waiting for the green light so as to cross, when suddenly one of them  jumped on to the road to try and cross.

The driver tested negative for alcohol.

Police are investigating.
