Parekklisia

Parekklisia is a village located in the Limassol District, northeast of Agios Tychonas and ancient Amathounta.

Two of the most important religious monuments of the village are the church of Timios Stavros of byzantine origin and the church of Archangel Michael (17th century).

A coastal village, it was first inhabited in the Early Aceramic Neolithic Period arout 8200 B.C. in the site named “Shillourokambos.” Excavations showed that the settlements in Parekklisia are the oldest, so far to be found in Cyprus (older than Choirokitia).

The earliest domesticated cat in the world was discovered by French archaeologists in a tomb in Parekklisia.

At the centre of the village there are taverns where visitors can enjoy quality Cypriot food and just outside the village there is the Chadjiantonas Winery.

For those visiting the village during the summer there is the Parekklisia Community Beach which was awarded with a blue flag. The beach is sandy with full facilities and can be accessed by all means.

There are several beach tennis courts located near the parking area, which is also the beginning of the coastal footpath that links to other beaches. The beach is also popular for walking and jogging.
