Paphos wins Gold Prize for its coasts

Paphos won the “Quality Coast” Gold Prize for being a sustainable coastal tourist destination for 2018.

The entire coastline of Paphos has been recognised for the third consecutive year as attractive for visitors interested in combining holidays and nature in a destination with enchanting scenery that cares for and preserves the quality of the environment and strives to protect and enhance local identity and cultural heritage.

The Gold Prize and a place on the list of TOP 100 “green coastal and island regions of Europe” honours Paphos but at the same time commits it to continue improving, says a Paphos Tourism Development and Promotion Company announcement.

“What made the difference for this award was the cooperation of all the Municipalities and Communities of the area under our coordination and the submission of a single proposal for the region that finally won the Quality Coast Gold Award.”

Key criteria for the selection of areas who receive the award are water cleanliness, biodiversity of areas, their environment, actions for good environmental behaviour, their socio-economic status, their cultural heritage, lack of air pollution, noise levels, quality of tourism infrastructure, security, accessibility and easy access to information.

Paphos was recently awarded with 16 Blue Flags for its beaches, an exclusive eco-label awarded to beaches with high water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety and other services.
