A 46-year-old man was remanded in custody on Wednesday by the Paphos District Court for illegal possession in Yeroskipou of antiquities from the Hellenistic and Archaic Periods, the CNA reports.

According to the police, yesterday after a tip-off that there were antiquities inside the man’s house, a search was carried out at the Yeroskipou property belonging to the 46-year-old.

The search revealed a number of antiquities, resulting in the arrest and subsequent interrogation of the suspect, who stated that the findings were inherited from his grandfather.

The objects were examined by an archaeologist who found that they are antiquities of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th century BC. The findings include two pots, two jars and a perfume container of the Hellenistic period of the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. Also found were a cup from the Classical Period of the 4th century BC and a wine jug and an amphora from the Archaic Period of the 7th and 6th centuries BC.

The 46-year-old was charged in writing to be later summoned to the Paphos District Court, while the findings were kept as evidence.
