A revamp of Omirou Avenue, which has been closed to the public since April 2018, is approaching completion photos posted by Nicosia Municipality show and an underground parking under construction there is expected to open to public in January 2020, according to the latest update.
The underground parking will cover the section of the avenue from the junction with Anastasios G. Leventis Avenue up to the junction with Evagorou Avenue. The two-storey parking will accommodate 147 vehicles. Eight spots are allocated to the disabled.
In addition to the new spacious parking, Nicosia Municipality has announced that public toilets will be constructed at the D’Avila (Western) moat level as well as a stairway and a link linking the parking to the moat and the avenue.
The project also envisages widening Omirou Avenue and constructing new pavement, lighting and signage.
The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (Competitiveness and Sustainable Development Business Programne 2014-2020), the State Budget and Nicosia Municipality.
The total cost of the project is € 7,700,000.
