Oikos murder suspect remanded

A 40-year-old man was remanded in custody for eight days by Nicosia District Court on suspicion of murdering 56-year-old Gianoulla Hadjioannou in Oikos village, on Monday.

The man, father of three children, appeared in court with a translator.

He is facing charges of first-degree murder, robbery, illegal weapon possession and illegal possession of property.

According to what was said in court, -when police found him – the man had bloodstains on his clothes and abrasions on his hands. Blood was also found in the bathroom and walls in the suspect’s house. A pocketknife was found in the crime scene.

Blood samples were sent the crime lab for analysis.

Police is suspecting that the bloodstained 1,500 euro in cash that was found in the suspect’s possession, were the receipts of the grocery store that the victim was working for.

Police is examining footage from security cameras as well as the telephone conversations of the 40-year-old.

According to philenews, eight people have given testimonies regarding the case so far, and another fifty will follow.

The man is denying any involvement in the case.
