Officers suspects in trafficking case, released

Five people, three of them police officers who are suspects in a human trafficking case will be released today.

The three officers along with a pub owner and his wife were accused of running a human trafficking network and using the officer’s jurisdiction at Larnaca airport to facilitate the entry of women in Cyprus, who would then go work at the pub.

According to Phileleftheros, interrogators came to the conclusion that there is no reason for the suspects to be led to court again so they will be released for the moment.

However, investigations will continue and after their completion, Nicosia District Court will decide whether to charge the suspects.

The investigations on the suspects’ bank accounts and mobile phones have not been completed and the course of the case will depend on the findings.

The officers who deny any involvement in the case have been placed on indefinite leave.

Police has identified five women as victims of trafficking, who are currently residing in a government refuge and will remain there until the case is closed.
