Agreement on an arrangement enabling the connection of mobile phones on both sides of the Green Line, does not seem possible for now, a source told CNA.
The issue was discussed during a meeting of the involved parties in the Greek Cypriot side under Greek Cypriot negotiator at the Cyprus talks Andreas Mavroyiannis.
The source said that unfortunately no solution has been found, noting that the solutions proposed concerned dual IMSCI (one SIM card with two telephone numbers) and the GSM mobile network in Luxembourg.
One was rejected by the Turkish Cypriot side without any explanation while the other is not accepted either, since it does not recognise Turkish-Cypriot mobile companies but Turkish companies, the source said, adding that if the other side accepts one of the two solutions then the problem is solved.
The source said that the Chambers of Commerce of both sides are trying to contribute to the whole effort.
President Nicos Anastasiades said after his recent meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, that if progress is reached on the confidence building measure relating to mobile telephony, then they may meet again on November 12, adding that this depends on whether a solution is reached on the matter.
