A group of youths assaulted two police officers who went to Ayios Athanasios to break up their football game on Wednesday afternoon, philenews reports.
The site said that a patrol car from Yermasoyia went to the area where 10 youths were playing football in violation of the lockdown decree.
When two police officers, a man and woman, approached a few of the youths assaulted them, with others of the group trying to restrain them.
The two police officers were taken to Limassol Hospital while reinforcements were brought in. A few of the group were booked and police are looking for the others who got away on foot, philenews adds.
Police investigations continue.
