Youngest patient with Covid-19 is 22

The occupancy of the Famagusta General Hospital which operates as a COVID-19 reference hospital reached 93%, stated Amalia Hadjiyianni, Larnaca and Famagusta hospitals’ Scientific Director.

She added that there 42 people receiving treatment for COVID, seven of them in the Increased Care Unit. The youngest is 22 years of age and the oldest 97, both without any vaccination history. The average age of hospitalisations is 66, she added.

She noted that 80% of hospitalized people at the reference hospital are not vaccinated. She also said that so far there is no patient with the Omicron variant since all admissions are checked.

Hadjiyianni said that currently there are 15 patients at the Larnaca Hospital and another 72 people are cared for at the Eden Rehabilitation Centre waiting to test negative before being released.

She also urged the public to have rapid tests, maintain personal protective measures, wash hands, wear masks and keep distances and state their contacts if they test positive. Even the simple cold or flu are now considered suspicious, she remarked and urged those with symptoms to contact their personal doctors. At the same time she said vaccinations continue satisfactorily at Famagusta hospital.
