Work not always best remedy of poverty

The European Parliament stated convinced that the phrase “work is the best remedy for poverty” is not always true, particularly under current conditions, when there are sectors with low salaries and bad working conditions, including forms of informal work, something that is affecting the viability and sufficiency of the social insurance systems.

The above position of the European Parliament is included in the resolution to the European Commission, which was yesterday approved under the title “Resolution on reducing inequalities with a special focus on in-work poverty.”

Through this resolution, the European Parliament’s position in favor of maintaining, protecting, reinforcing, and expanding work collective agreements, but also setting minimum wages.
