A woman who has tested positive for coronavirus gave birth at Nicosia’s Makarios Hospital on Tuesday to a healthy baby boy.
The baby was delivered by C-section and both the baby and mother are doing fine, Dr Marios Loizou told the Health Ministry’s daily update on the coronavirus situation in Cyprus.
He said that both will remain at hospital for the next few days.
Dr Agathoclis Christofides, heads of obstetrics and gynaecology told the Cyprus News Agency that everything had gone well.
He said the woman, who has two other children, was asymptomatic and was brought to Nicosia from Paphos.
All the necessary protocols were activated and the C-section was carried out in a special operating theatre set up for such cases.
The baby and the mother, will remain in isolation in separate rooms with no contact between them pending further tests.
If all goes well, they will discharged so as to return home in the next few days.
