A woman who was a candidate for ELAM in the 2016 parliamentary elections is on trial for sending threatening messages to her ex-lover and his wife, media reports said on Thursday.
According to Politis newspaper, which first reported on the case in 2016, the woman is charged with sending a series of threatening messages after the man broke off their affair.
She has pleaded not guilty to harassment and threatening and insulting messages and the hearing will be held in June.
Reports said that among other the wife had been threatened that she would receive a bullet to the head. Politis added that the defendant caused a storm in November 2018 for disparaging comments about Roma after a nine year old girl was killed by her 13 year old brother in Larnaca. The Facebook post was later deleted.
In a statement issued later on Friday, ElAM said the woman was no longer a party member. It said that she had been struck off because of “unbecoming behaviour.”
