Nicosia Criminal Court on Friday sentenced a 51 year old woman to seven years in jail for stealing €675,041 from the accounts of clients of the Kaimakli Co-op Credit Society where she worked, philenews reports.
The offences were committed between 2008 and 2016.
She pleaded guilty to 257 counts of forgery, circulation of forged documents and creation of false accounts with intent to defraud. She also pleaded guilty to theft and money laundering.
The offences were discovered in 2017 when a client of the co-op complained that her account showed transactions that she had not carried out.
The co-op has returned the stolen money to the injured parties but the defendant has still not reimbursed the bank.
