Woman in critical condition with Covid-19 refuses to be intubated

Relevant News

A woman in a public hospital receiving treatment for coronavirus does not allow doctors to intubate her even though her condition is critical.

And she has a signed legal document in her hands which only the Auditor General can intervene to pave the way for her intubation in this unprecedented for Cyprus case.

Lawyer Christos Triantaphyllides told Philenews that this is a  complicated case since the specific patient is hospitalised at the urging of a relative.  She is unvaccinated and she had resisted, at first, to be hospitalised.

The doctors treating her are very concerned since, apart from a patient’s will not to be intubated, various crucial questions arise as to when and if doctors have the right to intervene.

The dilemma is whether they should carry out their duty and save a human life but on the other hand the question whether a patient’s will should be respected arises.
