WizzAir considering base in Cyprus

Hungarian low-cost airline WizzAir is in negotiations with the Transport Ministry and Hermes Airports about the possibility of establishing a base in Cyprus.

According to philenews, as a first step the airline wants to have a base with two airplanes in Cyprus, with the prospect of having five airplanes in the future.

Philenews writes that WizzAir wants to fly to destinations that are not easily accessible from Cyprus.

Currently, the airlines flies to Larnaca from Luton, Vienna, Varna, Kutaisi, Budapest, Debrecen, Vilnius, Katowice, Krakow, Warsow, Cluj, Iasi, Belgrade and Kiev.

WizzAir was established in 2003. It has the largest fleet of any Hungarian airline, although it is not a flag carrier, and currently serves 44 countries. It has 26 bases in Europe and flies to 600 destinations. Its fleet is comprised of 105 A320 and A321 airbus planes.
