Graffitis and slogans on walls of old buildings in walled Nicosia are a problem for the capital’s municipality, an official told Philenews.
As he noted “it is a sad sight to see these slogans everywhere, which are often insulting,” adding that the culprits do not hesitate even to write on sandstone, a unique and expensive material for which it is difficult to find experts to restore it.
In addition to the fact that they constitute destruction to private property, businesses and historic buildings, they wall writings create large costs for the Municipality, since the amount to cover them can rise up to 400-500 euros and there is new graffiti almost every day.
The Municipality said it has already sent letters to football teams and had meetings with their representatives in an effort to limit wall writings of football slogans.
