Volunteers from company Giovani Group have cleared the garbage southwest of Paralimni lake last Friday and Saturday, philenews reports, a move that comes less than two weeks following public outcry on the state of the area, which forms part of the Natura 2000 network.

A press release by the company states that the action forms part of their Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that is based on two pillars; environmental protection and sutainable development.

Within the same strategy, the company is also planning a tree planting event for February 15 and has set a target to plant 5,000 trees in Famagusta district. Participants will include Giovani Group employees and management, volunteers and local authorities.

Executive Director of Giovani Group Antonis Antoniou said:

“Climate change is the epicentre of conversations globally, affecting all human activity. We have a responsibility to society and especially to the next generations to act ecologically and sustainably.”
