Visiting Croatian Prime Minister hails his country’s strong ties with Cyprus

Relevant News

Visiting Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plencović has said his country and Cyprus are linked with mare nostrum, the Mediterranean, the sea that links both countries in civilisations terms, in cultural terms and in historic terms.

But, he also told attendants at Tuesday’s official dinner hosted in Nicosia by President Nicos Anastasiades, the two countries today are also linked in commercial, transport and energy terms.

Referring to the war in Ukraine and the energy crises it has created, he said this hits everybody and that «no one is safe from this situation”.

He added: “Therefore we should work jointly on solutions that put together our national efforts and our joint European efforts, because a big problem requires big solutions, creative minds and a lot of cooperation.

“And Croatia and Cyprus have always been on the same side of supporting the best solutions for Europe, for our countries and our citizens.”

Anastasiades described the visit as a historic one since it constitutes the first ever official visit of a Croatian Prime Minister to Cyprus.

And that it not only reflects the EU states’ joint commitment to build closer ties between them but also comes at a significant milestone as next year they will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.
