The residents of the nine communities of Vasilikos area are temporarily suspending their protests over the waste management site at Pentakomo in view of their arranged meeting with President Anastasiades on Tuesday.
The meeting was arranged by Minister of Agriculture Costas Kadis who had discussed with the Coordinating Committee all recent mishappenings in the heavily-industrialized area.
These have endangered both the environment as well as the health of the residents who have made it clear they had enough and that solutions to long-lasting problems should be found.
The Coordinating Committee said in a written statement that the residents are in a waiting position and that, if necessary, they will claim their safety and health again.
A meeting was arranged on Thursday between the Committee and a delegation of Opposition AKEL led by their Parliamentary Speaker George Loukaides.
He said that since the moment the unit had operated and up until now problems have not been solved and goals set not realized.
He also stated his disappointment at the inability and inaction of the government to deal with these problems.
