Vasiliko area residents suspend – temporarily – indefinite blockade of Pentakomo waste management

Relevant News

Following the intervention of Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis, residents of the nine communities around Vasiliko have suspended – temporarily – their indefinite blockade of the waste management site at Pentakomo.

But they have sent the message that future inaction on the issue might result in further, more serious protests.

Kadis who had met the protesters on Wednesday to listen to their concerns firsthand told state radio on Thursday that a special inspector will be appointed to carry out checks on the units that are active in the area.

The inspector will be chosen by the communities themselves, he added.

Kadis has admitted that the area is facing many problems as a result of past missteps but he also stressed that the government’s intention was to tackle them.

The Minister also said he had presented a number of suggestions to solve some of the problems regarding the waste management unit, and the operation of other units in the area.
