Relevant News

A 36 year old man from Latvia was on Wednesday jailed for six years by the Larnaca-Famagusta Criminal Court after being found guilty of armed robbery of a kiosk in Protaras.

The robbery was committed on August 15, 2017 when two hooded individuals entered the kiosk at around 4.30 am. One of the two threatened the employee with a gun while the second sprayed the employee in the face. They then took €1,200 from the till and fled.

The employee and customers chased the two culprits and managed to immobilise one of them — a 30 year old Greek Cypriot from Larnaca.

His accomplice, from Latvia and also a resident of Larnaca, fled. The gun was found by police outside the kiosk.

On September 14, the Larnaca-Famagusta Criminal Court found the defendant guilty. The 30 year old Greek Cypriot had pleaded guilty and is serving four years in jail.

The court found that the 36 year old was the person who had sprayed the kiosk employee in the face while the 30 year old accomplice had pointed the gun.
