Two 11 year old pupils have been reported missing from Kamares primary school in Larnaca since the morning, police said on Tuesday.
It said a man aged between 50 and 60 is reported to be involved in the disappearance of the two boys who have been named as Themistoclis Doglis and Philippos Stamatakis.
The man is described as being 1.70 to 1.75 metres tall. One of his hands is bandaged. He is driving a grey car, it added.
Media reports said the man appears to have introduced himself to the two children as their new teacher.
Police have launched a search and are asking for anyone with any information to contact Larnaca CID on telephone 24804024 or 24804016, the closest police station or the citizen’s hot line on telephone 1460.
A police spokesman said that a helicopter is participating in the search. The airport, port and check points have been informed as part of the police mobilisation.
Education Minister Costas Hambiaouris visited the school on Tuesday morning. He said that there had been a bomb threat which turned out to be a hoax at another Larnaca school around the same time.
Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou is also heading to Larnaca.
