The fire services have contained a blaze on a gas rig anchored at Limassol port.
Philenews said that the fire, which broke out at noon on Friday, probably started from a generator.
The 172 strong crew has been taken to safety.
The fire service said that the fire service was under control and that fire fighters would remain on site even after it is completely extinguished to eliminate any risk.
The rig was due to depart for Egypt in the next few days.
