United Nations also to be blamed for no appointment of Cyprus special envoy-President says

President Nicos Anastasiades has said the United Nations are also to be blamed over the continued stalemate in the appointment of a special envoy on the Cyprus problem by the international organization.

The UN have gone back on what was agreed on this crucial issue, he also said on Sunday days only before his upcoming visit to New York for the 77th UN General Assembly in September.

The President is expected to meet privately with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres even though no date has been set yet.

He will seek some development – including the appointment a special envoy – to help the resumption of stalled talks aiming the reunite the island which is divided since a 1974 invasion.

Political initiatives are already being made in advance of his meeting with Gutteres, the President also said.

The 77th UN general assembly will take place from September 13 to 26.
