Unions: Express employment license procedures to personnel from third countries should stop

Relevant News

Unions in Cyprus have called for the policy implemented just after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine providing express employment licenses to personnel from third countries to stop.

Both left-wing PEO and right-wing SEK argued that priority should be given to local staff employed in 2019 and who are still unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the economy.

The request was made at Tuesday’s meeting in Nicosia of the Economic Development Consultancy Committee under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides.

The Committee met for the first time in 10 years and also taking part were the Energy Minister, Labor Ministry officials, Central Bank of Cyprus Governor and leaders of SEK, PEO and DEOK unions.

As well as leaders of the Cyprus Employers Federation, Public Servants Union (Pasidy) and Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The common conclusion is that economic growth will certainly slow down due to the war in Ukraine. Along with alarming continuing inflationary pressure.
