The UN continue to work with the parties trying to find a resolution of the situation in Cyprus, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq said on Tuesday.
The Deputy Spokesperson was replying to a question during the press briefing at the organization’s headquarter in New York regarding the UNSG’s upcoming visit to Turkey.
Specifically, he was asked whether he brought to the attention of president Tayip Erdogan the fact that Turkey is an invader of Cyprus, in 1974, with 200,000 refugees.
And also the fact that the SG visited the invader to discuss another invader, Russia.
“We provided a detailed readout of the Secretary‑General’s meeting with President Erdogan, and I would just refer you to the details of that readout,” he replied.
“Regarding our position on Cyprus, that’s well known, and as you know, we continue to work with the parties, trying to find a resolution of the situation in Cyprus. That is as much as I would have to say on that,” Haq also said.
