Two rescue flights on Tuesday and Wednesday

Relevant News

Two Cyprus Airways rescue flights to repatriate Cypriots stranded abroad will be conducted today and tomorrow, Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos told CNA.

Today’s flight, Karousos said, will fly to Kiev, then Chisinau and finally Bucharest collecting a total of 98 people stranded in those countries, and is expected to return to Larnaca at around 10 pm on Tuesday night.

Tomorrow’s Cyprus Airways aircraft will first land in Frankfurt, where it will collect people gathered there from 25 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Istanbul, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Italy, Estonia and Denmark.

From there it will fly to Thessaloniki to collect more passengers. The plane will finally land in Larnaca at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday evening with about 130 people on board.

Karousos said that the two flights are partly funded by the Cyprus Hoteliers Association, that raised about 100,000 euros to go towards repatriations as prioritised by the government, while the fuel is a donation of energy company Petrolina.

The Minister added that there will be daily repatriation flights until April 30 as per the criteria announced by the government.
