Even though the traffic cameras have been in operation only for two days, they have recorded plenty of violations and there have also been several complaints by citizens even though for the time being they get away with a reprimand. The traffic Department has requested the archives from various state services in order to find the culprits more easily.
During the total of 12 hours the eight cameras have been in operation, 80% of the violations were recorded in Nicosia. Also there were
- 550 violations of the red light
- 390 violations of speed limit
An indication of the violations in the streets is the fact that just one mobile camera used in Nicosia at night recorded 300 violations, most of which were violations of speed limit.
According to Police official Charis Evripidou, within the next few days the first letters of warning will be sent to violators.
