Tourism revenue up 2.8% in Jan-July, per capita spending down 6.2%

Tourism revenue rose an annual 2.8% in the first seven months of 2018 to total €1.4615b, but per capita expenditure was down the statistical service said on Friday.

It said that revenue for the month of July 2018 was €426.6m, a marginal 0.2% higher than in the same month in 2017.

According to the passenger survey, per capita expenditure in July was €790.64  – down by 1.4% over the €801.63 in July 2017. The per capita/per day expenditure per visitor in July also fell by 1.4% over July 2017. The average duration of stay was unchanged at 9.9 days.

In the first seven months of 2018, per capita expenditure was  €668.95 compared to €713.08 in the same period the previous year, representing a drop of 6.2%.

The per capita/ per day expenditure per tourist for January to July was down 4.1% (from €77.51 to €74.33) over the first seven months of 2017.
