Turkish Cypriot authorities are imposing tougher measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

On Sunday, three positive cases were announced among people, primarily students, who had been in quarantine for 14 days at three hotels after returning from the UK.

As a result, the quarantine which was due to end today, has been extended for a day pending further tests and tracing.

This brings the total of  Covid-19 cases in northern Cyprus to 91. Two have died. No new positive cases were announced yesterday.

Under the new measures which come into effect from midnight tonight, movement between the districts is prohibited whereas entry to Lapithos and Karavas will be subject to police controls.

Workers in essential services and security are excluded.
