A total of 280 reports of family violence in Limassol took place from the start of the year till now with 112 of them having been referred to the registry of criminal acts.
This is what Philenews reported on Monday, citing police sources who also said that 82 of these cases had been sent before the district court of the island’s second largest city.
And that 69 people have been arrested in connection with these cases over the past five months. Moreover, 73 restraining orders have been issued.
The island’s level of family violence remains high, in fact it is more or less the same as the corresponding period last year, according Limassol District Police spokesman Lefteris Kyprianou.
However, some cases are never thoroughly investigated since the victims go ahead with withdrawals.
Most of the time women, wives or/and partners, are the victims of abuse, threats etc.
