Authorities in Cyprus carried out a total of 1,177 checks in five days at shops and other private enterprises which resumed business last week to ensure that employees had taken rapid tests.

This is a provision in the Health Ministry’s relevant decree.

An announcement on Tuesday by the Health Services also said the inspections took place during the week of 8-12 February and four fines were issued.

Specifically, 200 hairdressing salons with 380 employees were inspected, plus 81 beauty parlours with 129 members of staff and 284 grocery stores with 1,815 employees.

Also inspected were 185 kiosks with 490 staff members and 427 food service stores with 1,929 employees.

Cyprus entered the second phase of relaxation of measures a week ago with the opening of retail shops and commercial malls.
